My earliest recollection of an interest in natural history is from 1956 when I was given a copy of 'The Observers Book of Birds', by my parents. I was then eight years old and had access to only a few garden birds. Many of the illustrations in this wonderful little book appeared to be of almost mythical creatures, I could hardly believe they really existed! The picture of a Bittern allways looked to me like a giant snail and I lived in constant hope that one day a Puffin would fly into the garden! That book was soon followed by 'The Observers Book of Wild Animals' and they were my constant companions. I still have these books today and often look through them and remember my boyhood excitement at discovering this natural world.
Since those distant days I have taken time out to become an electrician, get married, raise a family, and retire. I also consider myself very privileged to have spent many hours watching and sharing the private lives of Britain's wildlife. For the last ten years I have attempted to photograph these moments spent with our wild neighbours, with varying degrees of success, and display the results on this website.
I have organised the birds into sections based on habitats, following the same format as used in 'The readers digest Book of British Birds'. Clicking on a particular bird will take you to a gallery showing all the images of that species. I would like to thank all of you who take the time to leave a comment in the guestbook. I do appreciate it and it provides an incentive to carry on and expand the site.

My book is now available. This is a pictorial look at the natural history of my local patch over the course of a year. It also features a family of badgers and follows their progress through the year. Please click on the image (left) to see a preview.
